Electrical conductivity
ISO 284 sets the requirements for the electrical conductivity of conveyor belts and the corresponding test method. Its main objective is to ensure that the belts are sufficiently conductive to prevent the build-up of electrostatic charges during use, which is critical in environments where there may be a risk of sparks, explosions, or interference with sensitive equipment.
When an esbelt® belt complies with ISO 284, it means that the belt:
- Is antistatic: Its electrical resistance is below the established limit (≤3×10⁸ ohms), which prevents the build-up of electrostatic charges.
- Reduces the risk of sparks that could cause explosions in flammable atmospheres.
- Prevents discharges that could damage sensitive products or electronic equipment.
- Has passed the test method defined by the standard, guaranteeing that the belt meets international requirements.
In summary, a belt with ISO 284 is safe to work with in environments where static electricity poses a risk.
